About Utah Freemasonry

History

The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Utah oversees this jurisdiction and all recognized Lodges herein are governed by this august body. There are Freemason Lodges in Box Elder, Cache, Weber, Tooele, Davis, Salt Lake, Utah, Carbon, Uintah, Emery, Grand, Iron, and Washington Counties.

There are currently two Freemason Lodges in Utah Valley, Damascus Lodge #10 and Story Lodge #4. While Freemasonry’s teachings are fairly universal, each Lodge has its own unique culture, which is why you are advised to investigate both to determine which best serves your purposes.

Damascus Lodge #10 is known within the Utah Freemason Community for its sharp ritual, Masonic education, and status as a Working Lodge. It is a rare thing for the Lodge to go dark (a term used by Freemasons around the nation for periods of time, usually during the summer months, when a Lodge does not meet but for special meetings).

A Working Lodge means that Damascus focuses on bringing up men within the Masonic structure by performing degrees (the Three Degrees of Masonry). Traditionally, Damascus also works with charities, maintains its own Christmas Charity, educational scholarships for Masons and their families, Independence Day celebrations, and more. Damascus has been known to give public lectures on Freemasonry at colleges and other public locations to inform and break down the all-to-common misconceptions of what our purpose is as Masons.

Damascus Lodge #10 was established January 21, 1896.
